ADAPTING PHILIPPINE AGRICULTURE TO CLIMATE CHANGE (APA) PROJECT

Last July 29, 2024, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, through its Foreign Assisted Programs and International Relations Office (FAPIRO) hosted a meeting with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) together with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) to discuss the proposed implementation of “Adapting Philippine Agriculture to Climate Change” Project involving Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs).

The project’s main objective is to strengthen rural men and women’s resiliency to climate change through the facilitation of capacity-building initiatives geared towards Climate Resilient Agriculture (CRA). Also, the project is anchored on a specific gender and social inclusion mainstreaming process ensuring the representation and participation of all the members of the Indigenous Cultural Communities.

As a result of the meeting, NCIP and the Department of Agriculture will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the APA project.

Joining FAPIRO in this meeting are the representatives from other NCIP offices namely the Ancestral Domains Office (ADO), Office on Socio-Economic Services and Special Concerns (OSESSC), Office on Education, Culture, and Health (OECH), Office of the Chairperson (OC), and Office of the Executive Director (OED).
