On 6 March 2023, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao – Ministry of Indigenous Peoples Affairs (MIPA) paid a courtesy visit to the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Central Office in Quezon City.

The visit stems from the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two agencies. The memorandum aims to equip the MIPA on pertinent NCIP policies directions, best practices on operations and processes, necessary programs, activities and projects as basis to efficiently perform MIPA’s mandate to promote and protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

NCIP Chairperson Allen C. Capuyan, together with Bureau Directors, Division Chiefs and other key staff warmly received the delegation of 12 MIPA officers and staff and 2 representatives form the Support to Bangsamoro Transition (SUBATRO).

To open the discussions, Chairperson Capuyan provided an overview of the NCIP which was followed by a more detailed dialogue with NCIP Directors in view of their respective bureaus’ mandate, operations and intended targets and outcomes, which will be used as benchmark and references to further develop MIPA’s operations manual.

As part of the visit, the delegation had a study tour on NCIP’s Community Service Center in Porac, Pampanga on 7 March 2023.
