Bilateral Meeting with United Nations (UN) Philippines
A bilateral meeting between the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and United Nations (UN) Philippines was convened on 27 February 2023 at the UN House in Mandaluyong City.
The meeting aimed to forge possible partnerships with the UN to continue to uphold Indigenous Peoples rights in the country. During the event, NCIP Chairperson Allen Capuyan presented the Agency’s mandate, programs and future plans, specifically on the importance of the 11 Building Blocks of Resilient, Responsive, and Relevant Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) in their Ancestral Domains (AD). He also shared current issues and concerns of ICCs/IPs in their respective ADs.
UN Senior Human Rights Adviser Signe Poulsen raised clarifications on the challenges that needs to be addressed and assured the Agency of engagements in different significant areas involving ICCs/IPs.
To wrap the discussions, the NCIP Chairperson turned over sets of Project Epanaw’s three Coffee Table Books, copies of NCIP’s Annual Reports and posters of the 11 Building Blocks.
