On 21 March 2022, the PHRCS facilitated the conduct of the call with the NCIP, Dr. Fernand de Varennes-UNSR on Minority Issues, and the Philippine Mission to the United Nations-Geneva to discuss key concerns of the UNSR.
The FAPIRO Director, Dir. Dahlialyn D Dait-Cawed, MNSA, presented the, “NCIP and the Philippine Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) : Situation Update”, to provide a general-specific details of the situations of the ICCs/IPs of the Philippines. Areas of cooperation/engagement with the UNSR were stressed by the Director.
Usec. Severo S. Catura acknowledges the NCIP for championing IP rights in the United Nations and in other international fronts bringing the intent of having the voices of the ICCs/IPs in the UN or the authentic representation of the ICCs/IPs in the discussions in the UN.
In closing, Executive Director Rogelio Francisco M. Bantayan, Jr. and Usec. Catura expressed appreciation for the recommendations and directions shared by the UNSR with the PH Government.
