The NCIP expresses its grave concern over the increasing tension and hostilities between the Manobo-Pulangiyon Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) and the Kianteg Development Corporation (KDC) over a disputed land located in Quezon, Bukidnon which was duly recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) by issuing Certificate of Ancestral Domain Claim No. R10-CADC-135 which was also the basis of NCIP in converting into a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title in 2023 pursuant to IPRA, Section 52(a). However, KDC anchored its continuing occupation on a Forest Land Grazing Lease Agreement (FLGMA No.122) issued by the DENR which expired on December 31, 2018.
We urge all parties to refrain from escalating the matter and call on national government agencies and the Local Government Unit concerned to work towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
The NCIP does not tolerate any form of violence or abuse against ICCs/IPs, as well as any Filipino citizen, and emphasizes the need to adhere to the rule of law at all times to ensure peace and protection of all parties and stakeholders involved in the dispute which CADT application was already approved by the NCIP CEB.
