NCIP conducts Capacity Building on ADSDPP

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) conducts a training of trainers on the Ancestral Domain Sustainable and Protection Plan (ADSDPP) Guidelines and Manual of Operations on August 6-8, 2024 at the Camelot Hotel in Quezon City.
 
During the event NCIP Chairperson Jennifer Pia Sibug-Las, together with Executive Director Mervyn H. Espadero, Ethnographic Commissioner for CAR and Region I Gaspar A. Cayat, and ADO Director Atty. Arthur K. Hernan, encouraged everyone to be actively involved in the training program as it ensures the attainment of ICCs/IPs right to determine and decide priorities for development under the Right to Self-governance and Empowerment, hence underscoring the sustainable development on Ancestral Domains.
 
Given to NCIP officers and staff from the agency’s central and regional offices, the training aimed to provide participants a common understanding of the ADSDPP and the Indigenous Peoples perspectives and practice on planning and development and its relation to the different ADSDPP components. The training emphasized action research as main approach in the ADSDPP formulation with takes into consideration ancestral domain and community situation, development plans and programs that can meet the needs of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) and necessary enabling policies, structures and mechanisms to instill sustainability in ancestral domains.
 
As an output, participants provided recommendations on the refinement of the ADSDPP Guidelines and it’s Manual of Operations; a consensus was reached on a detailed and expanded ADSDPP outline, providing a uniform framework for future plans; and, participants were tasked to developed re-entry plans as application of their learnings to their respective offices.
