NCIP ENGAGEMENT MEETING WITH DATU NILO MANPATILAN TO DISCUSS THE FREE, PRIOR, AND INFORMED CONSENT (FPIC) PROCESS OF CARBON TRADING PROJECT (CTP) OF PROJECT CARAGA GROUP INC. – Day 4, Session 4
 
16 May | The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Chairperson and NCIP Region XIII conducted Ancestral Domain (AD) Leaders engagement meeting with the Datu Nilo Manpatilan and Project Caraga Group Incorporated (PCGI) at the Agusan Del Norte Provincial Training Center, Capitol Grounds in Butuan City.
 
The NCIP Chairperson led the activity along with NCIP XIII Regional Director Ordonio P. Rocero, Jr.; while Datu Nilo Manpatilan represented Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Agusan del Sur; also present were representatives from Project Caraga Group Inc., NCIP Regional and Provincial staff. The rest joined the meeting through Zoom.
 
The discussions tackled concerns on the Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) process of Carbon Trading Project (CTP) of PCGI; and conflict between Bryan Thomas and Datu Benhur Mansulunay.
 
Chairperson instructed the team that will conduct pre-FPIC to undergo 11 Building Blocks and Cultural Sensitivity seminar; inviting all IP leader representative of CADT affected by the project. With regards to the resolution on Mr. Thomas by Banwaon ICCs/IPs, PCGI respected the community’s decision and shall take appropriate action.
