NCIP ENGAGEMENT MEETING WITH THE HIGAONON AND BANWAON ICCs/IPs OF ESPERANZA, AGUSAN DEL SUR REGARDING THE CREATION OF IPs AND SELECTION OF IPMR- Day 3, Session 1
 
14 May 2023 | The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) conducted 3rd day of Ancestral Domain (AD) visitation with Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) in Provincial Training Center, Capitol Grounds, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, Caraga Region.
 
The NCIP Chairperson led the activity along with NCIP XIII Regional Director Ordonio P. Rocero, Jr.; also present were Elders and Tribal Leaders and NCIP Regional and Provincial staff. The rest joined the meeting through zoom.
The discussion focused on creating an IPS of Banwaon tribe; selection of Indigenous People Mandatory Representative (IPMR) in Esperanza, Agusan Del Sur; and non-inclusion of a clan to the list of CADT beneficiaries as reflected in the CADT 255 CENSUS.
 
As a way forward, NCIP Provincial Office will submit to the NCIP central office a documentation of IPS – including sectoral boundaries and owners of Higaonons’ and Banwaons’ prior to the selection of said ICCs/IPs IPMR. With regards to non-inclusion of CADT 255 census, clans were instructed to submit documentary evidence supporting their migration claim with consequent validation from NCIP field offices.
