NCIP JOINS THE PROSPECTORS & DEVELOPERS ASSOCIATION OF CANADA (PDAC) CONVENTION

3 March 2024 | As a member of the Philippine delegation led by the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Chairperson Jennifer Pia Sibug-Las participated in the World’s Premier Mineral Exploration & Mining Convention hosted by PDAC.

The PDAC Convention aims to provide venue for educational programming on the latest news and technologies related to mineral exploration & mining. Subsequently, the Philippine delegation, as a response to the call of the current administration to revitalize responsible and sustainable mining, hopes to advocate responsible mining and highlight the potential of the Philippines relative to mining, establish network with various international mining and exploration companies, and to explore the different programs of PDAC to benefit Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines.

To start the conference, Jakob Stausholm, CEO of Rio Tinto Group, opened PDAC 2024 with a keynote message underscoring that in a world of transition, metals matter. During the event, Chairperson Sibug-Las convened with representatives from the world’s leading technology, services, and investment companies to discuss possible areas of collaboration to continually uphold the rights and well-being of ICCs/IPs.

The convention takes place in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and will run until 6 March 2024.
