NCIP PARTICIPATED IN DUGSO SANDAWA FESTIVAL AND ARAW NG DAVAO DEL SUR

26 June 2023 | National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) participated in the Dugso Sandawa Festivial in Davao Del Sur.

Representing NCIP were Chaiperson Capuyan, Regional Director Mumar M. Mamukid, and Davao del Sur Provincial Officer; while their Elders and Leaders represented Bagobo Tagabawa, Taga-kaulo, Blaan, and Kalagan Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) of Davao del Sur. Stakeholders, Local Government Unit (LGU) of Davao del Sur, and other National Government Agencies (NGAs) were represented by their respective Officials.

The Dugso Sandawa Festival exemplifies the implementation of inclusivity, cultural preservation and empowerment of ICCs/IPs.

As the festival’s Guest of Honor and Speaker, the Chairperson reiterated NCIP’s commitment to support the operationalization of the 11 Bulding Blocks for the empowerment and sustainable development of ICCs/IPs in their Ancestral Domains and Ancestral Lands (ADs/ALs). He underscored the significance of collaborative efforts of NGAs and stakeholders in upholding the mandates of NCIP to respect, recognize, promote and protect the rights and interest of IPs in the country.

Highlight of the festival was the Oath-taking of newly elected Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) of Davao del Sur Local Government Unit administered by NCIP Chairperson.

ICCs/IPs performed a variety of cultural dances and other presentations showcasing their rich and diverse culture and customs.

To cap the festival, NCIP provided copies of Project Epanaw Coffee Table Books (CTBs) and posters of 11 Building Blocks to Davao del Sur LGU representatives and other stakeholders.
