April 5, 2022 | NCIP PARTICIPATES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE 35TH TASK GROUP ON FOOD SECURITY
The OSESSC Director Geroncio R. Aguio, Chief Glenda A. Pua and Ms. Dana Buenaobra Lim attended the 35th Task Group on Food Security, chaired by the Department of Agriculture.
The said meeting opens the discussion with the presentation of Vegetable Outlook for 2022 consisting of highland, lowland and regional vegetable supply in the country. Secretary William D. Dar reported the top 10 contributors to Inflation, measures in addressing the soaring prices of commodities and the Plant, Plant, Plant Program 2 (PPPP2) that aims to help address the current economic challenges exacerbated by the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
These challenges include the disruption of the global supply chain, high logistics costs, high fuel prices, climate change impacts, presence of transboundary diseases, and affected Philippine exports to Russia with the net result of increased food prices driving high food inflation (DA communications, 2022).
The meeting was concluded with the report on Sub-task group on Economic Intelligence wherein Anti-Smuggling efforts of the Bureau of Customs and Department of Agriculture were discussed. The creation of the said sub-task group will greatly help in protecting the livelihood and economic interests of all the farmers in the country including the IP farmers.
