11 July 2023 | National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and Sorok Uni Foundation Inc. (SUFI) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the NCIP Central Office – Conference Room in Quezon City.
Representing NCIP were Chairperson Capuyan along with Executive Director (ED) Mervyn H. Espadero, Commissioners Gaspar A. Cayat, Bureau Directors, and Division Chiefs; while in attendance for SUFI were its Chairman Jae Jung Jang, President Annabelle Llave, Vice President Vicente Pacheco Jr., and Executive Director April P. Castillo.
The formal partnership will give educational assistance to eligible and interested Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs), create pertinent livelihood and vocational training to help employment opportunities for IP graduates. The intended impact is to emancipate them from social stigma and poverty through empowering opportunities and building sustainable communities.
Commissioner Gaspar Cayat and Exec. Dir. expressed their support on SUFI, as partner of NCIP in upholding the well-being of ICCs/IPs.
Office on Socio-Economic Services and Special Concerns Acting Director Ms. Glenda Alcantara Pua gave Salient Provision of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
NCIP Chairperson Capuyan expressed his appreciation for the partnership with SUFI; he raised the concern of the urgent need to prioritize ICCs/IPs, especially in providing equal opportunities for them.
SUFI Chairman Jang was in agreement with the Chairperson; in his message he reiterated his commitment to help the Filipino people. He said that his heart is for Filipinos and wanted to give aid to Indigenous Filipinos. He underscored that through this partnership is first step to reach this goal for the development and progress of ICCs/IPs in the country.
As the highlight of the activity, the NCIP Chairperson Capuyan, SUFI Chairman Jae Jung Jang and President Annabelle Llave, Exec. Dir. Espadero signed the MOA, solidifying the partnership and collaboration between the organizations.
NCIP also provided copies of the Project Epanaw Coffee Table Books to the SUFI representatives.
