National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Office on Education, Culture, and Health (OECH) Director Mary Grace Buasen and OIC Education and Culture Development Division (ECDD) Chief Jordine Rose Ocon along with National Youth Commission (NYC) Executive Director Leah Villalon, Filipino Asian Modern and Contemporary Painter Manny Garibay, and Porac Tourism Officer Gemilyn Marimla graced the opening ceremonies of SULI: Visual Art Exhibit in Manila Clock Tower Museum, Manila City Hall on 02 May 2023.

 

The art exhibit “SULI”, a Kapampangan word for tree branch sprouts, showcases the masterpieces of the Porac Young Artists (PYA) led by awarded visual artist Herminigildo Pineda, together with the Indigenous Ayta Artists. This momentous event advocates transformative social change and highlights their talent expressing the beauty and understanding of Porac’s local culture.

SULI will run from 02 May to 02 June 2023 at the 5th Level of the MCTM. The exhibit is an initiative of MCTM Chief Curator Atty. Elba Cruz.

 

The NCIP expressed its full support to the undertaking which engaged IP Youth from Porac, Pampanga (CADT 123). The Agency underscores the crucial role of Porac Ayta Mag-antsi and Ayta Mag-indi IP Youth in the arts through cultural preservation, practicing contemporary art, advocacy on social change, entrepreneurship, education, and environmental stewardship and as cultural ambassadors.

 

During the ceremonies, MCTM expressed its willingness to collaborate with NCIP for similar activities to promote the talents and empower IP Youth and Artists.
