On 14 August 2022, the Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines – Abra relief missions team led by veteran volunteer, Mr. Johnny Kwok, in collaboration with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples through the Office on Socio-Economic Services and Special Concerns represented by Ms. Glenda A. 430 families in Brgy. Layugan, Municipality of Bucay and 338 families in Brgy. Nagtipulan, Municipality of Lagangilang belongs to the Tinggian/Itneg IP groups that benefitted from the Foundation. Each family received 20 kilos of rice and a sack bag of groceries, including spaghetti pasta and sauce, condiments and other food items, and hygiene products.
Tzu Chi also extended financial assistance to the bereaved families of the 4 IPs found buried in a landslide area in Sitio Bangel, Brgy. Poblacion, Luba, Abra.
During the program, the beneficiaries were given the opportunity to donate any amount they could afford to give through Tzu Chi’s coin bank. “Everyone of us, regardless of status in life, has the capacity to do good,” says Manila volunteer, Mr. Benson Lao. “In this world full of greed and chaos, kindness is the antidote.”###
